Recess

Ecclesiastes

3 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

2 a time to be born, and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance (aka play);

Almost unanimously everyone answered that the thing they missed most about Elementary School was Recess. Sunday we concluded that the Biblical understanding of play, and the human need for recess are grounded in these things:

  1. God took a recess. (Genesis 2)
  2. God made a day for recess and set it apart from the rest of the week. (Exodus 20)
  3. Animals were made to play and are observed as being playful. (Psalm 104)
  4. The Bible affirms that there are proper times to play. (Ecclesiastes 3)
  5. Play (dance) is an act of worship and God can be honored and glorified in our play. (Psalm 149)

Have more fun in 2017. Take a Recess. Relevant Magazine had an article in their latest edition about this topic.
